Do you want to dine at Simon Rogan’s chef’s table?

Created on Wednesday, 13 Jul 2016 15:51:54

Visitors to the 2016 Taste Cumbria food festival in Cockermouth can enjoy an even more special dining experience this year, courtesy of Michelin-starred chef Simon Rogan.

He is again bringing his expertise from L’Enclume and Claridges to Cockermouth for the festival’s pop up restaurant - but this year the event will have a new twist. Diners will have the chance to eat at the chef’s table, where they will be served by Simon and his senior team, as they watch the food being created just a few feet away.

The venue for this year’s event is Wood Hall, a historic house perched high on the fell-side above Cockermouth, which has been transformed into luxury self-catering holiday accommodation. Guests will enjoy stunning views from its picture windows to the Buttermere valley, across gardens which were designed by landscape architect Thomas Mawson, who also listed Holker Hall and Rydal Hall in his portfolio.

Taste Cumbria in Cockermouth has a wealth of local partners. This year the festival is organised in association with Allerdale Borough Council and Cumbria Life, its main sponsors are Cockermouth Town Council, the Lakes Distillery and the Trout Hotel, and associate sponsors are Caterite, The Coffee Kitchen, Cumbria Tourism and Jennings Brewery.

The 2016 flagship Taste Cumbria festival takes place in Cockermouth on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September, with Simon’s pop-up restaurant on the evenings of Friday 24 and Saturday 25 September.

Also taking place on the Friday and Saturday nights will be the Taste Cumbria Beer Festival, hosted by Jennings Brewery and Workington’s Tractor Shed Brewing, and comedy and music nights in the Trout Marquee at the newly refurbished Trout Hotel.

Throughout the Saturday and Sunday of festival weekend, there will be a giant producers’ market on Main Street, and a hot food court in Market Place with meals and snacks to eat on the day. There will also be free demonstrations from some of Cumbria’s best chefs and food and drink experts in the Main Street marquee, as well as hands-on masterclasses in the Riversmeet building, off Market Place, and loads of family entertainment.

Festival organiser Marie Whitehead, Director of CN Events, says: “This year’s festival is already shaping up to be a brilliant weekend. We’re so pleased Simon Rogan has agreed to return, and really excited that we can offer the chef’s table experience at beautiful Wood Hall. Every year we try to find new and different ways to keep visitors entertained for the whole weekend and we hope this year’s line-up won’t disappoint.”
