TASTE Tynedale festival will return to Hexham this summer showcasing the region’s finest food, drink and music.
The event is being held at Abbey Park on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July with an array of gourmet treats, craft beers and drinks and activities for all the family.
Local chefs will put on cookery demonstrations and, throughout the day and into the evening, bands will perform in the beer tent plus there’ll be plenty of Prosecco and wine flowing too.
Trevor Cessford, Mayor of Hexham, said he is urging as many businesses in the Tynedale area as possible to get involved. In its first year Taste Tynedale attracted 7,000 visitors with 40 traders taking part and the aim is to build on this success.
He said: “I’m hoping this year there will be more stalls, music and entertainment to show the excellent food and drink Hexham has to offer. This year we really want the focus to be on the North East's food, businesses, shops and demonstrations and especially the beer that we are very proud of.
“We’ve got some great producers here and it’s an opportunity to show what Hexham is all about. As well as the food and drink, I’d love to see the local shopkeepers get involved too.
"Now the event is up and running it’s a great way for us to show off what this region has to offer and establish Taste Tynedale as a date in the diary that everyone can look forward to.”
The event is sponsored by Hexham Town Council and organised by CN Events who also stage the Taste Cumbria festivals which have attracted more than 200,000 visitors since they were established in 2009.
Organiser Marie Whitehead, Director of CN Events said: “We’re very excited about this year’s event and have learned a lot about what people in the region would like to see - food and drink made in the North East. There are many talented people making quality, locally produced food and drink here and this is something to be proud of.
“Taste Tynedale is all about celebrating this passion and showcasing their skills to people living here and those visiting the festival too. We hope to get as many local businesses involved as we can and put on a fantastic weekend for all the family.”
